Dino Birthday Party!

Ruth and I are now the proud mommies of 3 year olds…Really? 3 Years??? Anyway, this years birthday for our boys had to be awesome enough to top last years but also easy enough for us to actually finish since both of us have been occupied with baby growing and baby having.

Ruth suggested a dinosaur theme and I instantly agreed. Her ulterior motive in choosing this theme was that she had already planned the most awesome “party favor” for Cam and Ash’s friends…each one received his or her very own dinosaur tail! Yep, we just blew every plastic party favor bag filled with bubbles and lollipops right out of the water. But you ain’t seen nothing yet…just wait til I tell you about the cake!

We made 22 of these super easy tails, using this tutorial by Jessica from Running with Scissors. In order to get them made in a timely manner, we used felt as the spikes to save all the clipping, turning and pressing needed for the fabric method.

The kids chose their tail and ran all over the park with them. It was so awesome!

So does anyone have a suggestion on how we can top this next year?

  1. Oh, my goodness! I can't believe you made all those tales!! They look awesome and I'm sure the kids loved it. I have no idea how you could top those for party favors...but you've got a whole year to think about it. :)

Coincidentally, I just posted about dino cookies today. http://helpinglittlehands.blogspot.com/2012/02/dinosaur-fossil-cookies-and-favorite.html

  2. Wauw! What a great tails. Those kids must have been very glad to wear them! My son once had a indian party. I made a tipi, with a fireplace and and for all his friends a made of old shirts and felt indian clothes. And a lot of indians games. It was a great party. (excuse me for my bad English...)

  3. These are fabulous. I can't wait to make a couple. I love your blog and have subscribed to the RSS updates.

Suggestion: I would love to be able search for things on your site. I found you via a google search for paint recipes and your watermark was on a sidewalk paint photo. I would like to find the post but there are no categories, or tags to click on to easily find your old posts. Shame because I'm sure you have some great stuff and I am a bit time poor, so hard to click back through all the archives.

  4. Thank you everyone for the nice comments! We had a great time making these tails. Alex, funny you should mention a search feature because we were just talking about that the other day. We really do need some navigation, but just haven't had the time to get it done (both pregnant then having newborns!) So thank you for the reminder, and never fear...someday (hopefully sooner than later) we will have what you are looking for :)

  5. Thanks so much for the dino tail idea. I sewed some for my son's 5th birthday party this weekend and the kids had a ball. The tails were the icing on the cake!

  6. How nice article from Dino Birthday Party!! At the garden themed event venue Atlanta my sister also hosted a grand party for her son. Her plans of the day were just perfect. She planned the first party all by herself and it turned out to be just fantastic. I will also get her help for my little one’s birthday bash.
